Description:
Waxblock is also known as ‘The Hollandisch’ or Guaranteed Dutch Wax. Also, when you talk about Attampa, everyone in West Africa knows what you are referring to. The Waxblock is very popular throughout West Africa, particularly in countries such as Nigeria and Congo, which boast the largest markets. Additionally, it is highly favoured in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo, and Guinea Conakry. Other countries where the fabric is sold include Cameroon, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, and Angola, each with their own preferred colours and patterns.

For instance, the Igbo tribe in Nigeria loves the typical blue, yellow, and red colours that are used in classic patterns for the Waxblock by Vlisco. These colours and patterns are also frequently used by the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria. However, other countries have their own unique preferences; Ghana, for example, favours bright colours. Ghana and Ivory Coast always prefer lengths of 12 yards instead of 6 yards.

Certain designs of the Waxblock are popular across multiple countries, each with its own name and meaning. For example, a design known as “Jumping Horse” among the Igbo people of Nigeria is referred to as “Je cours plus vite que ma rivale” (I run faster than my rival) in Ivory Coast. Many classic designs are used for “Agbada,” which means group uniform. These classic designs simplify dressing large groups of people in the same style, colours, and patterns for special parties and occasions.

In the northern region of Nigeria, predominantly inhabited by the Hausa tribe, people are more accustomed to Superwax.
