Java

Java fabrics are one of the most famous fabrics that Vlisco produced for many years. The Java fabrics are different from other famous fabrics like Wax Block and Superwax. Java prints have their own style and most of the time they have a highly glossed shining effect. The surface of the Java feels softer than a Waxblock. Java is a traditional west African fabric. It is very important for several cultural groups. A must have for people who love tradition and African fabric. Some designs are so much loved that they have gotten catching names instead of design numbers. Names as: Congo leave, Pencil, Adis abeba etc.

How it is made

Like already mentioned above, the Java is different made than a Wax Block or Superwax. A java is printed with the highest technique of precision. If you see a Java, you can see that it has a wide range of colours and is really detailed. The Java prints are created by interpretation of the Batik prints made by the oldest batik methods of Indonesia. The famous designs of Vlisco, also Waxblock and Superwax, are based on the process and styles of the Indonesian batiks.

The Java prints are made with very detailed engraved screens and rollers. Under high pressure the ink will be applied to the cotton and gives the Java it’s amazing, mostly floral designs. Because of this technique it is possible to give the fabric the smallest details of illustration. The Java print fabrics are made of 100 % soft cotton. The prints are on both sides. The colours are not fading and remains on the cotton. Because of the softness the Java print fabrics are very comfortable to wear.
